At a distance of 21 kms from Kodaikanal (past the Pillar Rocks), Berijam Lake is a man-made lake. In 1864, Colonel Hamilton an officer within the British military chosen the location for a navy cantonment, which was constructed and the eponymous Fort Hamilton established.
