At a distance of 65 km from Rameshwaram & 15 km from Ramanathapuram, Devipattinam (also called Navabashanam) is a wonderful coastal village.

This small village has a temple devoted to Devi. It’s mentioned to be the place the place Mahishasura was slayed by Goddess Durga Devi. It’s mentioned that Sri Ram had prayed to the Nava grahas right here by inserting 9 stones previous to going to battle with Ravana. It’s more and more getting in style amongst devotees who go to the close by temples of Rameswaram and Thirupullani. The 9 stones representing the Nava grahas or 9 planets may be seen few metres into the ocean. Nonetheless relying on the water ranges one could get to see all or few of them.

There are two different temples right here, one devoted to Thilakesava and the opposite to Jagannatha. The Thilakeshwar Temple is devoted to Shiva and Parvathi (Durga). Shiva right here is named Thilakeswarar and the Goddess is named Soundaryanayaki. Devotees on the temple provide 9 types of grains to the Gods and Goddesses. The seashore is stuffed with multicoloured shells and corals of assorted types.
